Week 50: Sugar Cookie Bars

I figured I could kill two birds with one stone with this challenge and try out a Christmas treat recipe to gift. The picture sold me on this recipe. The review said these are exactly like the controversial fluffy cookies you buy at the grocery store, but I for one love those cookies! Plus they are always brought for kids birthday celebrations in my classroom so they are very "giftable".
My 5year old was able to help me out with this recipe (she was in charge of mixing the flour and salt which took her about 15 minutes 😂). I'm happy I read some reviews before making because it the batter was extremely sticky when transferring to the pan. I followed one reviewer who said to spray the spatula and another said to use wet hands. I had some success, but the bars are definitely not even, but oh well.
Turns out I probably should have evened them out some more because some were super thick and undercooked and others were thinner and crispier. I'm much better at cooking with then baking since I'm far from a perfectionist and am never pay close enough attention to detail.
I usually am terrible at waiting for things to cool before frosting, but because I was completing last week's challenge this week too, I actually let it cool enough. My daughter went nuts on sprinkles but it looked pretty good. They tasted alright, not great. Although my daughter told me we HAVE to make them again, so maybe I'm just being too picky. One review said they're better the next day, so I may have to adjust my score!
