Week 47: Gyoza

I had never heard of Izakaya before this theme so I had to google it. Izakaya is a casual Japanese pub or tavern where people can enjoy drinks and small plates. All of the recipes I saw looked amazing, but I was still struggling with my leg injury so I played it safe and made gyoza which I love. I figured it would be easier to prep (more on how I was wrong here later). I also found out there are quite a few highly rated Izakaya restaurants in Portland I am adding to my list to try!

For the recipe I tried, I switched out the turkey for pork because most of the gyoza I have had are pork. I could only find wonton wrappers so I bought those. There seemed to be my downfall in what I thought would be easy prep. Turns out dry store bought wonton wrappers are real difficult to fold gyoza with. Mine all looked real ugly. The bonus was, this recipe made 52 wontons, so I was able to freeze them for later! (I also realized I forgot I left them in the freezer on a pan for a week when I was supposed to freeze until frozen, and then put in a ziploc bag. I'm hoping whenever I cook them, they're not freezer burned)

These turned out incredibly delicious and I ended up eating waaaaay too many and didn't need dinner.
